Maryland Department of Juvenile Justice
Delmas Wood is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Field Services
for the Maryland Department of Juvenile Justice. In this capacity,
he oversees the supervision and case planning for Maryland's
juvenile delinquent youth. Wood has worked for the Department
of Juvenile Justice for more than 25 years, beginning as a probation
and aftercare worker in Montgomery County, moving on to become
Carroll County Supervisor, and then Area II Director (Baltimore,
Harford, Howard, and Carroll Counties). He is the project director
for Maryland's Comprehensive Strategy for Serious, Violent, and
Chronic Juvenile Offenders, a partnership between the Maryland
Department of Juvenile Justice and six local jurisdictions to
develop plans to address serious and violent juvenile crime through
prevention and graduated sanctions initiatives. Mr. Wood has
served as chairperson of the statewide Disproportionate Representation
of African- American Youth Task Force. He also served as chairperson
of the Baltimore Metropolitan Juvenile Justice Council, which
is comprised of judges, masters, attorneys, and other juvenile
justice professionals. Wood is a member of the adjunct faculty
at Western Maryland College, teaching courses in criminology,
juvenile delinquency, and the family. He has lectured nationally
on the topic of satanism and ritualistic crime. Wood received
a B.A. in psychology from Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa,
and an M.Ed. in human development from the University of Maryland.
